Global Trade Review Awards Dinner raises £8,500
Claire Ali works as a Data Analyst & Registration Controller for Global Trade Review (GTR), an events and publishing company in London. In January 2022, Claire was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.
Married and with an 18 year old son, Claire led a busy, social life and was always on the go. Now, Claire had to undergo treatment that involved eight rounds of chemotherapy, a mastectomy and reconstruction surgery, as well as 18 rounds of antibody treatment.
She chose to continue to work throughout, as working helped her to forget about the cancer for a few hours. Her colleagues at GTR were incredibly supportive.
Chemotherapy took a huge toll on her body. She started to lose her hair and eventually had it all shaved off. She lost her eyelashes and eyebrows, and her skin became very dry.
Signing up to a Look Good Feel Better workshop proved a blessing. Claire says:
“It was a really fabulous and informative afternoon, and we were treated to an amazing haul of make-up and skincare goodies. I also attended the hair regrowth course. It was excellent and full of information about coping with the different stages of hair regrowth as it all springs back into life.”
Keen to provide further support for Claire, her colleague Anna Skinner, Chief Operating Officer at GTR invited Claire to nominate her charity of choice as charity partner for the GTR Charity Awards Dinner in the spring. Claire chose Look Good Feel Better.
The event was a huge success and raised a whopping £8,500, which will fund 17 face to face Skincare & Make-up workshops enabling us to offer our unique support to 170 people living with cancer.
Anna Skinner explains:
“We run an annual awards dinner each year where the trade finance industry get together to celebrate their achievements. We have supported various charities in the past and this is the first time we have worked with a cancer related charity! I am delighted that Claire is cancer free and that we have raised £8,500 for Look Good Feel Better in the process. A win, win situation for us all!”
