Look Good Feel Better

Lyn Tattersall – Longstanding Volunteer

Lyn Tattersall was working for Max Factor at Boots in Grimsby in 1999 when she was invited to sign up as a volunteer to Look Good Feel Better.  It was an appeal for professional beauty consultants to use their skills to help people undergoing treatment for cancer feel and look better which caught her attention.

“It’s something I really wanted to be part of,” she says now, decades later, in 2024, “although I didn’t think then I would still be here over 25 years later.  It has become part of my life, and it is one of the most rewarding things I have done.”

Lyn, who has since retired from the beauty industry, continues to run regular workshops at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull and is one of our precious lead volunteers who helps ensure the workshops continue to help the thousands of people facing cancer across the country.

As a busy mother of three children and grandmother to five grandchildren, Lyn also used to give regular talks at Women’s Institute and Rotary Club events to spread the news.

Lyn is involved in engaging new volunteers and has seen many changes in the recruitment process. She says:

“We used to be able to recruit quite easily amongst beauty professionals working on the shop floor of department stores, but that has become more challenging now that so much has moved online.”

For Lyn, the young adult workshops hold a special place in her heart, and the occasions when both mothers and daughters attend together, are extremely precious.

“I have met so many people over the years and have made so many memories, it has been such a fantastic experience and I would say to anyone if you think you can do it, give it a try.  It is such a rewarding thing to do!”

Thank you, Lyn, for your tremendous engagement and support over the years from everyone at Look Good Feel Better!
