Virtual Chair Pilates Workshop

Duration: 1 hour
Frequency: Once a month
Cost: Free of charge

Who can attend the workshop?

Anyone with a cancer diagnosis from point of diagnosis and beyond.

IMPORTANT: it is recommended you do not attend a session until at least 12 weeks after an operation and, whilst the exercises covered are very gentle, please check with your nurse or consultant before booking that you are safe to do so. If you have a PICC line, please also check with your nurse or consultant before booking.

What can I expect from the workshop?

Our volunteer, Janice Watson, is a Northampton based Pilates instructor with over 20 years’ experience in the fitness industry. Her specialisation in teaching Pilates came about after her own cancer diagnosis in 2016. After surgery, Janice knew she still wanted to keep active but in a safe way. Pilates is a great way to achieve this and Janice is very excited to be running these workshops and hopes everyone who attends benefits from it as much as she has done and continues to do so.

This is what we aim to cover:

  • Increased coordination
  • Gradual increasing of flexibility and mobility
  • Increased confidence
  • Reduced risk of injury
  • Controlled breathing techniques
  • All in the comfort of your own home and chair!

After the workshop you will receive a summary of the exercises for you to follow at home, along with a link to Janice’s Instagram page if you’d like to follow her.

What do I need to bring to the workshop?

Just yourself in loose fitting clothing, which is easy to move in, and a comfortable chair preferably with no sides. You might also want to have some water handy in case you need it during the session.
